all images are done, inside and outside covers, 6 sleeves, total 8 a1 pages for printers. I’ll take the files up to angel tomorrow morning and get them printed, meet in studio at 12 so we can construct the final mock up.
meeting with derek - suggested images are printed on off-white matt paper. we need to phone around and find out who can print it on the correct weight of paper(?), within our budget etc.
costello one might need redone if we have time - consider putting the iamge in an environment?
add colour to each of the black and white images - bitmap image and use photshop process.
for tomorrow - dexter has correct size of back covers to add text to. tomorrow we can photocopy and scan, to resize for jpegs. front and back covers need to go printers size a1 (£9/sheet in colour at online repro in angel - can print wed morn, can’t bring own paper, heaviest they supply is 260gsm)
got disposables back from eyeculture. almost all of them are useless so we’re going to have to go through all the digital photos we took as back up. possibly reshoot the elvis costello one entirely as it doesn’t fit in with the rest of the photos. ian dury graffiti still needs done and devo - glasses are made, need to photograph. these can be done over weekend and sent to lucy to resize, then sent to ruth to print for mock ups on monday.
decided on book idea, we’ve looked at the mock-ups lucy made and will have 6 sleeves, vinyl slips into the top. 31.5cm squared. the outside cover needs to be 32.5 cm squared with a 4cm spine to attach the tabs of the sleeve/pages to.
The Damned shoot, we met at dexters with all the images we had collected. Arranged them on the wall and took disposables and dgital shots. the digital shots looked good and don’t think we’ll have to do any more on this one. Phoned eye culture, if we can drop of photos by 630 tonight we can pick them up on friday morning. £2.99 a camera, so me , alice and lucy will split the cost as olivia and dexter have already paid for some. Will have to switch our plans for thursday and friday around, we will go through all the photogarphs on friday and concentrate on looking at the mocks/layout on thursday instead.
Thursday - alice and dexter need to bring in their type ideas so we can talk about what we are going to do with this.
ALSO, STILL STUCK WITH DEVO SLEEVE?

Today we are doing photoshoots for the adverts/ elvis costello.
Olivia and De)xter have developed disposable camera photos( the Damned tattoo shoot, Dublin Castle, the rest are to be taken and developed for thursday - phone eyeculture Brick Lane, enquire about prices?
Took digital and disposable photos of embellished jacket for adverts cover. Also took photos for Elvis Costello shoot, although we’re not very happy with the way these turned out, we didn’t spend enough time looking for the right location. We also should’ve thought about lighting, as by the time we got round to taking the shots it was dark outside. Depending on how the disposables turn out we will probably need to redo this one. Olivia is going to take the shots for this, as she is more competent with a camera. We want a wider range of shots as well, at the moment we have many copies of the same shot. Maybe would work better if they interacted with each other more/ more playful?
so far adverts - done, costello- might need to reshoot, damned- done, ian dury- done (waiting on development of photos), undead - photoshoot tomorrow at dexters, DEVO - WHAT HAVE WE DECIDED ON FOR THIS??

In meeting with Derek he suggested that we need to be more organised with how tasks are delegated. We have discussed at length where we are going with this project, in terms of what the photographs are going to contain, and i think we have all agreed on the visual style. Now we need to delegate exactly what each person is going to do this week in order to get the images ready for thursday.
We are meeting at 11am on tue (17th). During the day we are going to photograph the jacket which Olivia is finishing off tonight. Around 5pm we need to meet with the three guys we have asked to appear in our costello shoot. Adam, Daryl and Walter. If you haven’t already, can you ask them to bring a white shirt, black slim trousers/jeans and black frames glasses. Also can we all bring a disposable camera tomorrow, and digital. We need to hire a tripod from central store first thing, whoever gets into the studio first can go along and get one. Hopefully we are going to be finished with both of these shoots by the end of the day tomorrow.
ALSO - we have agreed(?) to try not the delegate work for this project over the weekend, to give us all individual time to catch up with out essays/assesment work. is this ok with everyone?
Individual tasks to be completed by the time we meet on thursday:
Ruth - story board ideas for each photoshoot, both adverts and elvis costello for tuesday morn, the rest by wed/thursday.
Olivia - finish the studs on denim jacket - one chord wonders- and any other clothing pieces you want to work on, if you have time. Also the pastel colour pens you were talking about?
Lucy - a selection of drawn mocks for the way the book is to be constructed, get a selection of paper/card and make smaller 3d mocks to scale for thursday. think about concertinas/ stitch bound, paper weights, scoring and folding etc.
Dexter and Alice- experiment with hand drawn type/collage for the tracklisting/covers. We were looking at sniffin’ glue etc for inspiration but feel free to experiment with whatever styles you are interested in, so long as it is handmade/found type/collage. i’m going to post the complete tracklisting below but you don’t have to do every song for thurs, as we need to decide which one of you will do the final type design. Just experiment with some words/titles.
We will look at these as a group on thursday and decide which work and which don’t, so it important that it is all completed. Photos from tuesdays shoot will need to be developed on wednesday, so that we can show them to derek on thursday.
(i feel like a whip-cracker)

We brought in various research materials, from zines, books featuring punk imagery etc. Useful as research but don’t want to get too bogged down with this visual style, it’ll end up really derivative.
‘Superfan’ idea - based around what we talked about the other day, working around the concept of a superfan for each sleeve, to capture the passion/obsession/dedication of the fans at the time. ties in with nostalgia etc. Creating imagery to represent the behaviour/ dedication of fans of each artist.
for each band -
The Damned - Tattoo idea, need to find a suitable place to photgraph Dexter’s tattoo.
Devo - Memorabilia/obsessive collecting, need to look online, try and source some memorabilia, and think about how we could present/photgraph this in an interesting way. play with proportions? collage/photmontage?
The Undead - teenage bedroom/covered in posters.
The Adverts - fan fashion (band tshirt, homemade clothing with ‘one chord wonders’ embellished on - studs on leather - patches on denim etc.
Ian Dury - graffiti, lyircs on walls/ public toilets etc. from most memorable songs
Elvis Costello - IMITATION as display of fandom. 3/4 guys of varying shapes sizes, all unified by wearing the clothes like elvis costello- thick rim glasses, quiff, suit jackets etc. need to find a range of men who are interested in this and set up a photoshoot? ideally want them all to be quite different underneath but be standing in the same way/styled the same.
FOR MONDAY, DO WHAT EACH OF US CAN
Ian dury - graffiti idea. carry a marker, photograph graffiti done in interesting places, nothing too clean looking.
adverts - experiment with embellishment on clothing - one chord wonders.
Undead - collect as much band imagery/posters etc as possible, online, markets, poster shops etc.
elvis costello- get in touch wtih people we know who might be interested in giving up a couple of hours for a photoshoot. think about how we are goign to source the glasses/suit jackets etc, if we need to. do some mocks of how we want the photo to look.
Devo- memorabilia - look online, records shops etc for the (cheap versions)energy dome hats, boiler suits, dolls etc.
